Let’s Get To Know What Is A Tesla Car

All Tesla cars are full electric cars, so they don’t use a fuel engine at all. But there is something unique about every Tesla car.

Tesla Motors or Tesla, maybe you are familiar or at least have heard of this one trademark. But did you know that Tesla is actually an automotive company headquartered in Palo Alto, California, United States? Do you also understand that Tesla has so far succeeded in producing a number of electric cars that do not require gasoline or other types of fuel oil at all?

Before we discuss about the cars that have been made by Tesla Motors along with the specifications of Tesla cars and their prices, let’s first review about this one company.

Tesla Motors, which has now changed its name to Tesla, Inc. is an automotive company that specializes in manufacturing electrical engine components, manufacturing energy storage batteries, producing battery rechargeable devices, and of course also making electric cars. Tesla since the first time creating a car, always presents a full electric car, not a hybrid. So there are no fuel motors in Tesla cars.

Tesla was founded by Elon Musk, Martin Eberhard, Marc Tarpenning, JB Straubel and Ian Wright in July 2003. Then Elon Musk was appointed CEO, while JB Straubel became CTO. As the company grew, Tesla also later set up production facilities in San Carlos, California, in the UK, and in Taiwan.

Tesla’s first authorized dealer was established in April 2008 in Los Angeles, USA. Then three months later, a second dealership opened in Menlo Park, California. Then, dealers in other locations followed, including in New York, Miami, Chicago, Seattle, Washington DC, as well as in several other countries such as Munich, Germany and then in London, England and also in Sydney, Australia.

Tesla has a unique technology in creating electric cars. Because the battery used uses thousands of small cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells similar to the batteries used in electronic devices such as laptops. This battery has a fairly light weight and low production costs. It is even said that Tesla’s battery production costs are the cheapest in the world.

1. Tesla Roadster

Tesla first made an electric car, which was then the first Tesla car picture was introduced to the public in concept form in July 2006. This car was named the Tesla Roadster, which turned out to be a very positive response. The first 100 units of the Tesla Roadster have been sold in just 3 weeks since its introduction. Then in October 2007, Tesla noted that orders for the Roadster had reached 200 units. Then in May 2008 the order increased to 600 units.

Some of the advantages of the Tesla Roadster, which are said to be the main attraction, are that this car is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in less than 4 seconds, and has a maximum speed of 201 km/h without sound. While the battery installed in this car can last until the car goes as far as 345 km. Because of that success, then in January 2009, the Tesla Roadster Sport, a new version of this car was launched at the current price of USD 128,500.

2. Tesla Model S

Receiving great success in the electric car segment, Tesla continues to innovate to produce new products. The next Tesla car that appeared was the Model S. This car was introduced in 2012 under the name “Whitestar”. The goal is to offer other options in the BMW 5 Series or Audi A6 segment, which are selling quite well in the US.

This car when introduced costs only USD 57,400. At the launch, the Governor of the State of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger was also present and appreciated the appearance of this car because it was considered to be able to reduce air pollution in the US. The advantages of this car include that the battery can be charged using a power source at home using a special charger.

3. Tesla Model X

The Model X is the third Tesla car made by the company. Introduced for the first time in 2012, deliveries of Tesla Model X units have started in 2014. Although the body is an SUV, this car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds.

This is partly thanks to the installation of a 75 kWh Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive. Besides being able to produce power equivalent to 329 hp and 525 Nm of torque, the battery used in the Tesla Model X is also able to make the car go 523 km on a single charge.

4. Tesla Model 3

In July 2017, the next Tesla car sold to the public was the Model 3. This car is claimed to be the cheapest electric car from Tesla. The type is a sedan and uses a Dual Motor mounted on the rear wheels.

In Model 3, Tesla presents several variants, namely Standard Range Plus, Long Range, and Performance. For the first type the battery can be used as far as 409 km before later having to be recharged again. As for the Long Range type, the battery can be used as far as 560 km. And for the Performance type, the battery capacity can be used to explore as far as 531 km but has the ability to accelerate from 0-100 kmh in just 3.4 seconds.

5. Tesla Model Y

The next Tesla car that has also been produced is the Model Y. The crossover type car has been marketed since March 2020 which according to Elon Musk is a complement to the Model 3. No wonder the design is similar to the Model 3 sedan type.

The improvements include a 7-seater passenger capacity, a battery that can last up to 482 km on a single charge, to an acceleration capability of 01-00 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, far above the average capacity of a gasoline-engined crossover.

6. Tesla Cybertruck

The most recent Tesla car that Elon Musk and his team started selling is the Cybertruck. The specs of this Tesla car are so interesting because it is the first battery-powered pickup truck and electric motor to be mass marketed. Moreover, the design is not commonly used.

There are three types offered, namely those that use a single electric motor (Single Motor), two electric motors (Dual Motor), and those that use three electric motors (Tri Motor). For the highest variant, this car can run as far as 800 km on a single battery charge. While all types of Tesla Cybertruck are able to pull loads up to 6.3 tons, and can support loads up to 1.5 tons.
